Today we drove a couple of scenic drives above Homer and were able to see some of the glaciers across Kachemak Bay. Here is Doroshin Glacier and Wosnesenski Glacier.

We also had some good views of Homer Spit. We are camped about half way down the spit.

We hiked a trail called Alpine Meadow above Homer. The flowers were beautiful – fireweed, lupine and cow parsnip. Some places the flowers and grass were 5 feet tall.

We stopped at Bear Creek Winery and had a good time tasting their wines. The wines were very good and, of course, we left with a few bottles. When we got back the wind had come up and Rex went kite flying on the beach behind our campsite.

We read in the Anchorage paper that the Talkeetna Moose Dropping Festival turned into mayhem. There was a lot of drinking, drugs and wild behavior. One young man jumped off a bridge into the river and is missing - they think he drowned. Now we are glad that the campground was full and we couldn’t stay for the festival.
