October 1- 6, 2012 - Chama, NM (continued)

We had good news at Rex’s doctor’s appointment.   His fracture was small and healing nicely so he no longer needs to wear the air cast or use the crutches.   The doctor gave him an ankle brace that he can wear with his regular shoes so he is much more mobile.    The park owners, Russ and Marge, invited us to a pizza party Saturday night.   They wanted to thank everyone who helped work on Russ’s railroad and the workcampers who worked in the park all summer.   The party was in the kitchen railroad car that Russ has in the park.   The car has a small kitchen with a dinette booth in the back and enough space for 3 small tables in the rest of the car.    We had a great time and enjoyed talking with everyone – the pizza and wine was also good.   We have enjoyed our stay at Rio Chama RV Park and have made our reservations to come back next summer.

Our friends from Oregon, Doug and Barb visited us for a few days.    One day while Rex was on the train, Doug, Barb and Nancy chased the train to Cumbres Pass.      The train was stopped long enough at the pass so that we could talk to Rex. The train was a double header which was fun to watch going up Cumbres Pass.    They only need the 2 nd engine to get to the top of Cumbres Pass so they uncoupled the lead engine at the top and it headed back to Chama while the train continued to Antonito, CO. To get the first engine turned around to head back to Chama they back it into the snow shed so they can switch tracks.   We had a great time chasing the train and seeing some of the beautiful fall colors.     We enjoyed our visit with Doug and Barb and are really glad they spent a couple of days with us. On Saturday the 22 nd , we participated in the First Annual Chama Job, Walk and Wag, a fund raiser for the Chama Humane Society
