October 21-31. 2010 – Apache Junction, AZ

We left Camp Verde on Sunday morning and drove south to Apache Junction.   We ran into a traffic jam on I-17 north of Phoenix where it was stop and go for about an hour but otherwise we had a good trip.   It is good to be back in Golden Sun RV Resort in Apache Junction and to see our friends and neighbors again.   The park was pretty empty when we got here but more people arrive every day so it is starting to fill up.   We have been busy getting settled and Rex has been helping some of our neighbors with handyman stuff and washing park models.   He will start back on the Dolly Steamboat in November. We went to a Bluegrass Festival in Tucson on the 27 th where we met Nancy’s parents and our friends from Benson, Leroy and Jinx.   We had a good day listening to some great bluegrass music and enjoyed visiting with Nancy’s parents and Leroy and Jinx. Nancy’s parents stayed at the festival all weekend and came to Apache Junction on Monday.   We met them at their propert

October 14-20, 2012 – Camp Verde, AZ

We left White Mountain RV Resort on Sunday morning and drove to Camp Verde, AZ which is south of Sedona.   We are staying at Camp Verde RV Resort along the Verde River.   We have a nice shady spot which is great as the temperature is in the mid 80’s. We took it easy here and did not do a lot as Rex’s ankle is still sore and Nancy’s shingles are still bothering her some.   We were here last fall and saw a lot of the sights then.   We did go to Sedona one morning to walk around town and have lunch.   After lunch we drove up Oak Creek Canyon, a beautiful canyon between Sedona and Flagstaff. At the top of the canyon we stopped at an overlook where the view was spectacular.   We could also look back on the road winding its way up the mountain. This overlook also had a number of Native Americans selling their crafts, mostly jewelry.   After browsing through the booths we headed back down the canyon.   It was a beautiful drive and a very relaxing day. We left Chama Sunday morning and drove all day across northern New Mexico and into Arizona.   We are staying at the White Mountain RV Resort which is in the White Mountains between Show Low and Overgaard, AZ.   There are a lot of elk in the area and we have enjoyed hearing them bugle every night.    The elk have even been in the park at night as we have found their tracks when we walk the dogs.   We are in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest where in 2002 the Rodeo-Chediski fire burned a very large area (our campground host told us he though it burned 2 million acres).   Consequently, the area all around the campground has very few large trees and many areas where there are no trees.   We are at an elevation of 6500 feet so the days are cool and the evenings are quite chilly. We mostly relaxed the week we spent here but we did take a couple of scenic drives.   One day we did a circle drive from Show Low to Springerville where we circled southeast to Greer, Pinetop and La
