May 30–June 3, 2024 – Traveling North to Niagara Falls, NY

We left Columbia, TN Thursday morning and started our trek north to Niagara Falls.  We drove to Greeneville, TN where we stayed at The Baileyton KOA.  This is another very nice and green RV park.  We are enjoying the beautiful scenery on our drive.  We have decided to take our time and only drive around 250 miles each day.

Friday morning, we drove north again and stopped in Staunton, VA where we stayed at another beautiful RV Park – Walnut Hills Campground.  We ate dinner at a good German restaurant where we were entertained by a duo playing German music on an accordion and mandolin.  An enjoyable evening, especially the dessert!

Parked a few sites down from us was a 41’ Newmar Ventana with the same paint scheme as our motorhome. This beautiful motorhome made our 34' look small.  We had a pleasant chat with the owners who are from West Virginia.

This is what our motorhome wants to be when it grows up!!!

We left Saturday morning and continued our drive north.  We drove through northern Virginia, a small section of West Virginia and Maryland and into Pennsylvania.  We are enjoying the scenic Appalachian Mountains and all the green.  The weather is great – sunshine in the high 70s and cooling off at night.  Best of all is the lower humidity.  We stopped for the night at Ferryboat Campsites in Liverpool, PA.

This campground is not as nice as some of the other ones we have stayed at, and it is very crowded.  They were selling tethered hot-air balloon rides Saturday evening.  The line to buy tickets was long and the balloon did not go very far off the ground, so we decided not to take a ride.

The campground is on the Susquehanna River and after dinner we walked to the river.  We found an ice cream shop that made their own ice cream, and we enjoyed delicious ice cream while sitting beside the river.

Sunday morning, we continued driving through Pennsylvania and into New York.  This is our first time visiting New York and it is another beautiful state.  We stopped at Sun Valley Campsites in Arkport, NY abut 100 miles south of Niagara Falls.  We will spend two nights here so we can rest up after 4 days of traveling and do our laundry and other chores.

This is another beautiful campground with lots of grass and the flowers along the entrance are beautiful.

After getting our laundry and other chores done on Monday morning, we hiked to the waterfall on Canaseraga Creek. We were expecting a small waterfall but were pleasantly surprised – the falls were beautiful.

On the way back to the campground we came upon this snake.  Luckily for us, Tacky had no interest in the snake.

We enjoyed our stay here at this beautiful and quiet campground.  Tomorrow we will drive on to Niagara Falls.
