August 1 - October 31, 2017, Chama and Aztec NM and Apache Junction AZ

We traveled back to Chama on July 31 st and were ready to start work again on August 1 st .   It will take us a few days to get back into getting up early and working again.   We didn’t do a lot in August except work and enjoy the wildlife and surrounding mountains.     We especially enjoyed the hummingbirds that visited our feeders. And the chipmunks We also enjoyed watching the deer – especially this doe and her fawn that visited almost every day. Rex had a great time getting together with others in the park who like to play and sing.   They were able to play together a few times this fall and we all enjoyed listening to these talented neighbors. We had the body shop in Chama repaint the hood on the Jeep and it makes the Jeep look a lot nicer and newer.     In August we also enjoyed another great dinner...

April 22 – May 31, 2017 – Chama, NM

We made it to Chama midafternoon and spent the rest of the day getting set up.   We started our jobs in the RV Park Sunday morning – Nancy in the office and Rex is working outside.     The heavy snows over the winter knocked some trees down and broke a lot of branches so the guys were busy getting the park cleaned up.   We woke up on April 27th to snow – Brrrr This was the view out our back window It snowed off and on for the next 3 days and was cold - in low 30’s during the day and in low 20’s at night for a few days.     It was quite a change from the warm weather we left in Arizona! May started warming up into the 50s and 60s until we got another snow storm on the 10 th – this was our last snow storm.   We only had a couple days of cold weather and then it started warming again. The park officially opened on May 1 st and a few campers started trickling in on that day.  ...

We all left Chama on Thursday morning and headed to Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta.   We are dry camping together on the fiesta grounds.   School buses pick us up right here in the RV park and take us to the front gate for every event.   It is wonderful not to have to fight traffic to get to Fiesta Park. We attended the Thursday evening Special Shapes Glow and fireworks display.    We got to see lots of different special shape balloons but the glow seemed to be a bit disorganized.   The fireworks were great. We got up early Friday morning for the special shapes launch.   We had a great time as we really love all the different balloon shapes. There are lots of new shapes – notice the fire hydrant at top right and the fire truck below.   At the bottom left is part of the red fire chief’s hat.   We wonder how some of these balloons fly. Nancy’s fa...

September is here and it continues to rain every day! Rex will take over the Docent Coordinator position for the month of September.   Besides his regular docent duties he will be responsible for scheduling the docents and taking care of any problems as they arise.   He has to open the docent office every morning before the train leaves and then again every afternoon when the train from Antonito comes in. We enjoyed a Labor Day cookout with the campground providing hamburgers and hot dogs and everyone bringing a dish to share.   There was lots of great food and good company.   This was the first day since we arrived here that it has not rained – YEAH!    The weather continued to be beautiful after Labor Day - sunshine and very little rain. Nancy’s sister, Carol and her husband, Vince, visited us the middle of the month for a few days.   Carol, Vince and Nancy enjoyed a wonderful ride on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. ...
