June 5, 2024 – Niagara Falls, NY continued

After our great lunch we returned to Niagara Falls State Park and stopped at Goat Island.  The Niagara River flows around Goat Island with The American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls on one side and Horseshoe Falls on the other side.  We walked across a bridge to Three Sisters Islands to view the Canadian Rapids.

Three Sisters Islands are beautiful, and the views of the rapids are spectacular.

There were a lot of seagulls sitting on the rocks.  We even saw some Canadian Geese walking on these rocks.

We then drove to the other side of Goat Island and walked to Luna Island where we got a great view of the top of American and Bridal Veil Falls and the American Observation Tower we were at this morning.

We then walked to the Cave of the Winds - this used to be a cave but has eroded and now there is a staircase built beside Bridal Veil Falls.  There were hundreds of seagulls and many babies.  This mom is looking after 3 chicks.  You have to look close as the chicks are the same color as the rocks.  Dawn warned us to wear our rain ponchos to not only protect us from the water but from the seagull droppings.  It did smell bad along this area.

The view of Bridal Veil Falls on the way to the staircase was beautiful.

The staircase climbs up beside Bridal Veil Falls and the higher you go the wetter you get.  The top level is called The Hurricane Deck, and you will get drenched if you go to the top.

We climbed to just below the Hurricane Deck and decided we had gotten wet enough.

Dawn told us that these stairs must be removed every fall as the ice in the winter will damage them.  It takes about 6 weeks every spring to rebuild the stairs.

We had a great day and saw all the main sites at the falls.  We enjoyed our tour and Dawn was a great guide.  We are tired and ready to go back to the motorhome, but we plan to come back to Niagara State Park and explore on our own while we are here at Niagara Falls.
