June 9-11, 2024 – Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Sunday morning, we drove across the Rainbow Bridge to Niagara Falls, Ontario.  The border guard who processed our entry into Canada was very nice and everything went smoothly.  We are staying at Campark Resorts on the west side of Niagara Falls.  Just after we got all set up it started raining and rained all evening.

Monday morning it was still raining and was forecast to rain all day, so we decided to go to the Ontario Visitor Center where a very nice lady helped us plan what we would like to do.  We then went grocery shopping and did our laundry and other chores.

The city bus stops at our campground and gives you one free ride so Tuesday morning we hopped the bus and rode to Table Rock Center at Niagara Parks.  We purchased a two-day Falls Pass which will give us entry to most of the attractions we want to see and a two-day bus pass.

Our first attraction was The Journey Behind the Falls where we descended 125 feet through bedrock and walked a short tunnel to an overlook beside Horseshoe Falls.  We were so close to the falls that you could hear and feel the force of the water – it was amazing.

We had a great view of the American Falls from the Canadian side.

We were so close to Horseshoe Falls that you could not get a picture of the entire falls.  And, yes, we did get wet – glad they gave us these stylish yellow rain ponchos.

After leaving the Journey Behind the Falls we walked to the Niagara Parks Power Station and Tunnel.  On the way we passed this cute little tree whose branches were drooping down to the ground.  There were little tunnels going into the center of the tree.

This was the first hydroelectric power station on the Canadian side of the falls but is no longer in use.

We took a self-guided audio tour of the power station.

We saw a demonstration of one of the original Tesla Coils that was used in the power station.  It was amazing to see the electricity shooting out of the coil and it also played music – the theme song from the Game of Thrones TV show.  The music was so deep and loud you could feel it.

We rode an elevator 180 feet underground to the 2,200 ft long tunnel, which was where the water flowed back into the Niagara River from the power station.

We had a great view of the American and Bridal Veil Falls from the viewing platform at the end of the tunnel.

We were so close to Horseshoe Falls that we could not get the entire falls in one picture, so this is one half of this beautiful waterfall.

And this is the other half.

Nancy standing in front the tunnel entrance on the viewing platform – this shows how big the tunnel is.

After we finished seeing the power plant, we rode the Falls Incline Railway up to the Fallsview area.

We walked along a walkway with beautiful views of Horseshoe Falls.

This black squirrel ran right up to Rex and was begging for food.  When he didn’t get any from us, he ran over to some other people on the walkway.

Another view of Horseshoe Falls from the walkway.

A view of the American and Bridal Veil Falls from the walkway with The Maid of the Mist (blue) leaving Horseshoe Falls and the Canadian Hornblower (red) going to Horseshoe Falls.

We had a great day today and are looking forward to coming back to the falls tomorrow.
