July 26-31, 2023, Dubois, WY

Wednesday, we decided to take a day off after two active days, so we stayed at the motorhome.  We spent the day relaxing, reading and doing a few household chores.

Thursday, we drove back to Lander for our new tires and the temporary plexiglass back window for the Jeep.  We feel much safer with our new tires, and we can actually see out the back window now.

We did laundry on Friday and Ann and Louise showed us the rental house on the Wind River that they clean between bookings.

Rex bought a fishing license, and on Saturday we went to Pete’s Pond so he could fly fish.  The only luck he had was one nibble.

The Wind River flows beside the pond, so he also fished the river, but had no luck.

While Rex was fishing, Tacky and Nancy walked a nice path along the river. Tacky sitting on a rock enjoying the river.

Friends of ours from Tucson, AZ who we met in Chama, NM have rented a cabin for a few nights in the mountains high above Duboise.  They drove down Saturday evening and we had a delightful dinner with them and Ann and Louise.  It was great seeing Beth and Charlie again.

We decided to stay two more days, but we could not stay in our sight so after dinner we moved to our second site.  Another large site with no one around except behind us.

We like this site better because we have a great view of this hoodoo that we could not see from our first site.

Sunday morning, we drove the Trail Lake Road along the base of Whiskey Mountain, home of the largest herd of Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep in the US.  Unfortunately, we did not see any on the mountain slopes.  We drove past Torrey and Ring Lakes and stopped to kayak at Trail Lake.

The lake is beautiful and Tacky did okay, but we think kayaking is not his favorite thing to do.

Tacky is sitting in Rex’s kayak looking at the scenery and the watching the ducks swimming ahead of the kayak.

Tacky is more relaxed and laying down watching the scenery go by.   He did really well on his second time kayaking.

We had a great time kayaking this beautiful lake.  On the drive back to Dubois, we again looked for Big Horn Sheep but did not see any.

We met Ann and Louise for drinks this evening and made our plans for tomorrow.

Monday morning, we met Ann and Louise at The National Museum of Military Vehicles.  The National Museum of Military Vehicles is a world-class military history museum which opened southeast of Dubois, WY in August of 2020.

Inside the 160,000 sq. foot Museum, visitors will find nearly 500 fully restored military vehicles, artillery pieces, naval vessels and aircraft dating from 1897 to the present with a current emphasis on the American experience in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The focus of the museum is to tell the stories of how these vehicles were used and to remember the valor of service members who fought, and sometimes died, in them.  The museum also houses a large, historically significant, firearms collection.

We spent the morning touring the amazing displays inside the museum. We ate lunch at the Canteen followed by some delicious ice cream.

After lunch we toured the outside displays.

There are an amazing variety of vehicles in this covered pavilion.

We enjoyed our day at the museum.

We said our good-byes to Ann and Louise as we are leaving in the morning.  We really enjoyed our time here and have decided Dubois is one of our favorite places to visit.  Thank you, Ann and Louise, for making our visit so enjoyable.
