May 5, 2023 – Grants, NM

We left Apache Junction on Friday morning on our way to Chama, NM where we are going to help the new owner of Rio Chama RV Park for the month of May.  Then, after 6 years spending summers working at the park, we will start traveling again.  With the wet winter Arizona experienced this year the cactus and flowers in our yard did exceptionally well.

Our front yard:

And the back yard:

This beautiful cactus is in our neighbor’s yard just across the back fence.

We stopped in Grants, NM where we spent the night at Route 66 Junkyard Brewery, which is a Harvest Host Location.  We joined Harvest Host this year to help with camping during our travels.  You can dry camp for 1 night free at wineries, breweries, farms, etc.  This place was unique as we parked in the parking lot of the junkyard surrounded by junk vehicles.

Inside the brewery we checked in at the bar, which was an old GMC pickup shell.  The front of the truck, minus the motor greeted you when you entered, and the bed was the bar.  Inside the brewery were vintage Corvettes and an old Ford.  The walls were decorated with all kinds of junkyard stuff!  The tables were vehicle hoods and you had to be careful with your drinks as the tables were not flat and had ridges in them.  We enjoyed a great pulled pork sandwich and adult beverages.  We will definitely visit the Route 66 Junkyard Brewery again when we pass through Grants.
