July 1-2, 2013 - Traveling to Edmonton

We left West Yellowstone early Monday morning and drove north through some beautiful countryside to Great Falls, MT.  It was very hot when we arrived at Dick’s RV Park and we were glad to have a spot in the shade.

Tuesday morning we left Great Falls and headed to the Canadian Border.  We crossed the border at the Port of Sweetgrass.  When the Canadian border agent asked us if Mariah’s parents knew where she was we were really glad that we had asked them to provide us with a letter giving us permission to take her to Canada.   After checking our passports, the health certificates for our dogs, and the letter from Mariah’s parents, we were allowed to enter Canada.

We knew from news reports that Calgary had some major flooding last week but was surprised to see buildings and cars still under water south of Calgary around the town of High River.  There was lots of evidence of the flooding along the rivers and streams we passed and they were doing major repair work on a number of bridges we crossed.  We decided it would not be good to stop in this area for the night and we knew Calgary would be very busy as the Calgary Stampede is starting soon, so we kept driving and stopped for the night at the Municipal Park in Carstairs north of Calgary.  We watched the news on TV where they showed some of the damage in the High River area and stated that they are just now being able to get into the town to start the clean up.
