October 10-11, 2023 – Big Bend National Park, TX

On Tuesday, we decided to go to Chisos Basin in the late afternoon and then have dinner at The Chisos Mountains Lodge.
It was much less crowded than when we were here on Saturday and more enjoyable.  The scenery around the lodge was very nice.

We walked the Window View Trail, a short loop trail to the Window Pour-off Overlook – a pour-off is a seasonal waterfall.  The view was beautiful.

We saw this cute Acorn Woodpecker sitting on a dead tree beside the trail.

After our walk and we went to the Chisos Mountains Lodge and had a very nice dinner, drinks and dessert while looking at the beautiful mountains.  Rex is patiently waiting for the waiter to bring his beer.

After dinner we walked around the area as the setting sun was lighting up this mountain beautifully.

The park brochure said that the Window View Overlook was the best place in the park to watch the sunset, so we walked back down the trail and – it was breathtaking.  We spent almost an hour watching the different colors as the sun was setting.  We are so glad we decided to drive back up here this evening.

And another bonus – on the way back to the parking lot was saw these two Whitetail Deer grazing beside the trail.

On the way back out of the park, we drove a short distance down the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive and pulled off at a turnout to watch the stars.  The light pollution is very minimal here and we were fortunate that there were few clouds tonight.  It was amazing to see so many stars and the Milky Way.  It has been a long time since we could see the sky this clearly.

Wednesday, we decided to spend our last day here relaxing and getting the motorhome ready to travel.

We have greatly enjoyed our time here at Big Bend National Park, this is an amazing place to visit.
