June 12-31, Loveland, CO

Rex has been having some issues with his left eye for a couple of weeks and we were able to get an appointment at the Eye Center of Northern Colorado in Fort Collins on Thursday.  The news was not good, as he has a detached retina on his left eye.  The Eye Center’s computer system crashed, and they were not able to do the necessary surgery, so they referred him to Dr. Manry at the Eye Care Center of Northern Colorado in Longmont.  Rex saw Dr. Manry Friday morning and surgery was scheduled for that afternoon.  Rex did fine during surgery and Dr. Manry was able to repair the tear in Rex’s retina.  One problem is that Rex can not change altitudes because they put a gas bubble in his eye to help support the retina while it is healing.  So, we had to change our plans and stay here for a few more weeks.  Luckily, Loveland RV Park was able to accommodate us, but we must move to a different site.

Monday morning, we moved to our new site and got set up just in time for more rain.  We like this site better than the one we moved from.  It has rained almost every day since we got here.  One advantage of having to stay here longer is that we will be able to spend more time with our relatives and friends.

We are just a few blocks from The Lakes at Centerra where there are 4 miles of trails surrounding Houts Reservoir and Equalizer Lake.  We are enjoying taking Tacky for walks around the lakes.  The High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC) is also located here.  The HPEC is a living laboratory that explores the connections between native plants landscaping and restoration ecology to effectively restore habitat and conserve water in urban and suburban environments.

On one of our walks around Equalizer Lake we saw this dead tree with lots of birds perched on it.

There is also a Peregrine Falcon nest with 2 adults and 2 babies.  We enjoyed watching the adults feeding the babies.

On Father’s Day Nancy’s son Chad and his wife Kim came over for a cookout along with our granddaughter, Mariah and her stepdaughter, Dalylah.  Dalylah’s dad, Chris, was working in Missouri so he couldn’t join us.  We first all walked over to Equalizer Lake so Chad, Kim, Mariah, and Dalylah could fish.

We all enjoyed the sunshine, but the fishing was not good – not even one bite!

After our cookout great-grandpa Rex and Dalylah enjoyed the playground.

We all enjoyed a relaxing Father’s Day.

The next day we went to Fort Logan to visit Nancy’s parents resting place with Nancy’s sisters, Kathy and Carol and Carol’s husband, Vince.   Fort Logan is a beautiful and peaceful place.

The plaque on Nancy’s parents vault was not finished but we were able to pay our respects.

Dr. Manry found a couple of weak spots in Rex’s right eye and decided it was best to repair them now so Rex did not suffer another detached retina.  On Friday, June 23rd, Rex had laser surgery to repair the weak spots.

We went to Chad and Kim’s home for a cookout on Sunday.  Chad has a smoker and the burgers and pork chops were excellent.

They also raise Silkie chickens and have 1 adult and 9 chicks.  The chicks are about 4 months old and are so cute.

We spent time with our friend, Jean going to lunch and one Tuesday evening we went to dinner and then to North Lake Park for a concert by the Loveland Concert Band.  The Norma & Lynn Hammond Amphitheater is a beautiful facility and the concert of music from movie soundtracks was very enjoyable.  We are so glad we were able to spend time with Jean.

Rex saw Dr. Manry on June 27th for his final check, and everything is good.  The gas bubble has dissipated so Dr. Manry released Rex and we are now able to change altitudes.  Good news all around and we plan to leave for Kremmling, CO on July 1st.

We have had a great month in Loveland, except for Rex’s surgery.  We are glad to have had more time with family and friends.
