July 7-10, 2023, Kremmling, CO
Friday morning, we drove to Willow Creek Reservoir, a small mountain reservoir between Granby, CO and Grand Lake, CO. This was Tacky’s first time kayaking and his first time wearing his new life vest. This was our first time kayaking in a about 5 years and we have missed it.
Tacky patiently waiting for Rex to get his life vest on.
Tacky's new adventure begins.
Tacky enjoying the ride.
The East Troublesome Fire went through here in the Fall of 2020. This was the 2nd largest Fire in Colorado History - the same year as the Cameron Peak Fire, which was the largest. The East Troublesome Fire covered 208,913 acres. 580 structures burned, of these 366 homes. 35,000 people were evacuated and, sadly, 2 lives were lost.
The wildflowers were beautiful all
around the reservoir.
Tacky did very well on his maiden
voyage and we will take him kayaking again soon.
After our paddle, we drove to Grand
Lake where we ate a great lunch. After
lunch we walked around town and stopped for an ice cream. Tacky enjoyed sharing our lunch and ice cream
but was a little overwhelmed by the crowds.
We spent the weekend doing necessary chores around the motorhome and relaxing. We also drove to Granby to do some grocery shopping. Granby has a new City Market store that is very nice and also a gas station so we could use our gas points to fill the Jeep.
Monday morning started out with a small rain shower but ended up partly cloudy and warm. We took a scenic drive over Ute Pass.
We drove by Williams Fork Reservoir, a nice small mountain reservoir with camping along the shore.
We followed along the Williams Fork River
until we turned off to climb Ute Pass.
The elevation at the top of Ute Pass
is 9,600 ft. The wildflowers were
beautiful, but it was so windy it was hard to keep steady to take a picture.
And the scenery was breathtaking.
We drove down the other side of the
pass and had to stop at another turn-out to capture the beauty (along with
another photographer).
More beautiful scenery.
At the bottom of the pass we turned
onto Highway 9 for the drive back to Kremmling.
We drove beside the Blue River and The Green Mountain Reservoir. We drove under a couple of wildlife
overpasses which we were glad to see.
Highways are so dangerous for the deer and elk. This was a beautiful drive except for the
very strong wind.
