October 2-3, 2013, Goose Lake State Park, OR
We left Doug and Barb’s Wednesday morning and drove south to
La Pine where we turned onto Highway 395.
We followed the Oregon Outback Scenic Byway, a beautiful drive through a
slice of the Great Basin Region. The
scenery quickly changes from forested to dry with sagebrush and rock
formations. We stopped at Goose Lake
State Park at the end of the scenic drive and right on the California
Border. This is a beautiful small state
park campground with nice grassy sites and lots of trees and bushes. Best of all – it is not raining! We decided to stay here a couple of nights
and enjoy the scenery.
Thursday morning some deer came into the campground just
behind our site. We were able to get a
good picture of them through the back window.
We also have seen a lot of small quail running around. We took the dogs for a nice walk along a
trail ran around the perimeter of the campground. The trail followed a couple of dry creek beds
and went around a big open field. We
enjoyed our two days here and will remember this great state park when we are
in this area again.
