September 8-9, 2023 - Keystone, SD
We drove to Custer, SD Friday morning and had to drive into Custer State Park on the way. This big bison wandered onto the road in front of us.
After getting a part for the Jeep in
Custer we drove to the Crazy Horse Memorial and took a few pictures from
outside the complex. It has progressed
some since we were last here.
We then went back to Custer State
Park and drove two gravel roads - North Lame Johnny Road and Fisherman Flats Road looking for wildlife. We saw 2 lone bison bulls on North Lame Johnn
Road and came upon these Pronghorns on Fisherman Flats Road.
A little farther up the Fisherman Flats
Road we came upon another herd of bison along the road. We had to drive around a couple of them that
were in the road and reluctant to move. Fisherman
Flats Road ended at the Wildlife Loop Road, which we took on our way back to
the campground.
When we got back to the campground these four White-Tailed Deer were grazing behind our motorhome. We saw them in the park many times, but this was the first time all four were together and we could get a picture.
Another great day – we are so fortunate to get to see
all the beautiful sites and wildlife.
We decided to take Saturday off and relax, sort
through pictures and work on the blog.
We had another thunderstorm Friday night and again Saturday
afternoon. We have enjoyed our time here
and decided we like the Keystone part of the Black Hills better than the Deadwood
area. We especially like Custer State
Park.
