October 9, 2018 – April 15, 2019 - Apache Junction, AZ

We were in Apache Junction long enough to unload the 5th wheel and get the house set up before we left for a two week trip to Ohio and then to Colorado.  We spent a week visiting with Rex’s mother and other relatives in Shreve, Ohio.   We stopped in Colorado on our way back and spent a few days visiting Nancy’s family.   We stayed with our friends, Bob and Jean, while in Colorado.  They have a new dog, Maggie who is about the same age as Tacky.  Tacky and Maggie had a great time playing together.

After we arrived back in Apache Junction Rex started in with doing handyman work and teaching Tai Chi in our clubhouse.  We also started back into the Tai Chi class at Golden Sun RV resort and Rex assists our instructor by teaching the new students until they are ready to join the main class.  He also teaches this class when our instructor is gone.  Besides the Tai Chi classes, Nancy plays bunco and bocce ball and does water aerobics.

We participated in the Thanksgiving and Christmas potluck dinners in our clubhouse.  It is nice to enjoy a great meal with our friends and neighbors.  We again put up the little tree Rex made from driftwood we collected on the beaches on Vancouver Island a few years ago.

This is what Santa delivered to our house for Christmas – a 2018 34’ Newmar Baystar motorhome.   It is going to be somewhat different in a motorhome after having a truck and 5th wheel but we think we are going to love using our new motorhome in the summers.

Right before Christmas Rex started working at Ace Hardware in Apache Junction.  He is working 4 days a week and really likes it.  He will spend the next few months finishing up some handyman jobs and then he should have more time for some fun as he will be working 4 days a week instead of 6.

We have had a much cooler and wetter winter than usual this year.  It snowed on the Superstition Mountains a least 4 times and made for some beautiful pictures.  This is Superstition Mountain with Four Peaks in the background. Taken February 23rd - our peaks is totally covered!

Rex has continued playing his guitar and singing – participating in the Christmas and Valentine’s Day programs at Golden Sun RV Resort.  He has again this year organized “Saturday Night Live” at Meridian Manor – an open mic night where anyone can participate.  He enjoys playing and singing at these events.

Nancy enjoyed hiking with her hiking group when the weather permitted.

We were really lucky to come across these Big Horn Sheep on a hike around Picket Post Mountain.

The wet winter gave us beautiful wildflowers in February and March.  We found lots of Mexican Poppies on a hike on Pass Mountain in Usery Park.

On one of our last hikes in March we found lots of wild horses in one area – at least 100 horses.  We really enjoyed seeing the colts - this little one is getting some lunch!

Nancy also enjoyed hiking occasionally with a group of ladies who like to do casual hikes.  Most were in the Superstitions but one started by taking the light rail into Tempe and hiking Hayden’s Butte and then having a delicious lunch at The Cornish Pasty Company.  What a fun time with a great bunch of ladies.

When we purchased our new motorhome we ordered a dining table and chairs to replace the bench dinette.   After waiting almost three months and still no table we decided to take an inaugural trip without a table and chairs.  We spent two nights at Usery Mountain Park.  We had a wonderful secluded camp site.

We spent the two days getting used to the motorhome, walking Tacky and enjoying beautiful sunsets.  We really enjoyed a few days of quiet time enjoying the desert.

We finally got our buffet table and chairs installed and we also replaced the sofa sleeper with two recliners.  The buffet table is built in to the wall and has drawers and cabinets – some much needed storage space.  The table pulls out when we need more dining space and we have two folding chairs that are stored under our bed.  We now feel very comfortable in the motorhome and know we will enjoy traveling in it for many years.

We are heading to Chama, NM on April 15th where we will be working at the Rio Chama RV Park all summer.  We had planned to stop one night in Aztec, NM to visit Nancy’s aunt and uncle, but because her aunt passed away on April 2nd, we will spend a few more days with her uncle before heading to Chama.
