June 16-18, 2014 – Traveling to Virginia
We left Rex’s moms house on Monday morning and
headed southeast towards Virginia. We
stopped the first night at a small motel/rv park in Scarbro, WV. This was not a place we would spend more than
one night – our neighbors were a family living in a 27’ travel trailer. There were 3 boys ranging in age from about 6
to 16 and a German Shepard. The trailer
was surrounded by toys and stuff – not a pretty sight out our windows.
When we entered Virginia we no longer could tow
the Jeep behind the 5th wheel so Nancy had to start driving it. We don’t like to travel in separate vehicles
but we must obey the law. The next
night we stopped at a Thousand Trails Resort in Lynchburg, VA. This was a very nice resort and we decided to
stay two nights so we could go to the Appomattox Courthouse National Historic
Park where Lee surrendered to Grant.
Just as we were ready to leave that morning the electricity went off. It was too hot to leave the dogs in the 5th
wheel without air conditioning so we decided to wait until the electricity came
back on. The electricity came back on
shortly after noon but it kept going off and on all afternoon. We were disappointed that we did not get to
go to Appomattox but we will come back to this area and tour the civil war
sites on another trip.
