October 14-20, 2012 – Camp Verde, AZ
We took it easy here and did not do a lot as Rex’s ankle is still sore and Nancy’s shingles are still bothering her some. We were here last fall and saw a lot of the sights then. We did go to Sedona one morning to walk around town and have lunch. After lunch we drove up Oak Creek Canyon, a beautiful canyon between Sedona and Flagstaff. At the top of the canyon we stopped at an overlook where the view was spectacular.
We could also look back on the road winding its way up the mountain.
This overlook also had a number of Native Americans selling
their crafts, mostly jewelry. After
browsing through the booths we headed back down the canyon. It was a beautiful drive and a very relaxing
day.
Friday afternoon we went to the Verde Valley Fall Festival
at the Jackpot Ranch. There was an arts
& crafts fair, wine and beer gardens, live music and carnival rides. This was a fundraiser for the Jackpot Ranch
which provides the opportunity for medically challenges and at risk youth to
experience nature in a camp setting. We
enjoyed looking through the arts & crafts fair and bought some great flavored
pasta and some kettle corn.
