September 1 - 18, 2012 – Chama, NM
It is good to see all our friends at Rio Chama RV Park
again. Rex is enjoying being a docent on
the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad again – this is his ninth year as a
docent.
We see deer every day around the park. There are a number of does with twin fawns who graze around the park every day. One pair of fawns are fairly young and we are not sure they will be strong enough to survive the winter.
The weather in Chama has been beautiful and it is starting
to feel like fall as it is quite chilly at night and the cottonwoods in the
park are starting to change color. Rex has been helping Russ, the RV Park owner, around the
park. He has helped dig a drainage ditch
and stacked wood. One morning they
hauled about 40 railroad ties from downtown Chama to the small railroad Russ in
building in the park. Rex enjoys working
with Russ and it keeps him busy when he is not volunteering on the train.
On
the 17th we rode the train with our friends from the Denver area,
Roy & Loana and Bill & JoAnn.
We had a beautiful day for the ride although it did cloud
over and sprinkle a little after lunch.
The view of Toltec Gorge is beautiful. The
trees are starting to turn and we think the colors will peak in about a week.
We had a great ride and enjoyed visiting with Loana &
Roy and Bill and JoAnn.
