August 24-25 – Traveling to New Mexico

We left Sikeston Sunday morning after reluctantly saying good-bye to Nathan and Hattie (and their parents, of course).   We drove across Arkansas and stayed at the Overland RV Park in Van Buren, AK Sunday night.   The temperature hit 100 while we were driving and didn’t cool off a lot overnight.   Monday morning we headed across Oklahoma and into the panhandle of Texas.   We spent Monday night at the AOK RV Park just outside of Amarillo, TX.   The temperature hit 101 this afternoon but it clouded over and rained a little after we got set up in the RV park.   The temperature dropped some with the rain and we were able to sleep with the windows open.

We left West Memphis Friday morning and drove north to Sikeston, Missouri where we are visiting with Nancy’s nephew, Christopher and his wife, Madison.   Christopher and Madison have 10 month old twins named Nathan and Hattie – we are so anxious to meet these two little ones. We met Madison’s parents and grandmother for dinner Friday night and after dinner Great Aunt Nancy couldn’t wait to get on the floor and play with these two sweeties. Nancy and Madison are reading the books and playing with the stuffed manatees we brought from Florida.   These two babies are so sweet and happy all the time – we only heard them fuss once and that was because they were tired.   Nathan, sitting on Nancy’s leg, is serious and quiet while Hattie is the more lively and active one. Saturday we met Madison’s parents for breakfast and then went to the farmer’s market in town.   We bought some great plums and cherry tomatoes – Mmm nothing like garden fresh fru

We left Vicksburg Tuesday morning and headed north on Highway 61, the Great River Road, to Memphis, TN.    We are staying at Tom Sawyer’s RV Park in West Memphis, Arkansas just across the river from Memphis.     This is a beautiful park right on the Mississippi River with nice long, wide pull-through sites.    Our site is right along the river and we are able to watch the barges going up and down the river. After we got the 5 th wheel set up we spent some time watching the barges – this is the view from our patio. Wednesday we crossed the river and went to Memphis where we walked along Beale Street.   There are more than 20 bars and clubs on Beale Street – B.B. King and Jerry Lee Lewis have cafe’s here.     The Grand Opera House was built in 1890 and destroyed by fire in 1923.     The    Orpheum Theatre was built on the site in 1923 and has been the entertainment center of the Mid-South.   Crosby, Still and Nash ar
